About the Fiji Heart Study
This study has been Provisionally approved by the Southern Health and Disability Ethics Committee (Ref: 2024 EXP 12014)

The Purpose
-
To conduct the first genetic study of premature coronary events (such as heart attacks or angina/chest pain) for Peoples of Fiji.
-
Better representation in research will improve screening, treatment, and heart health outcomes for our future generations.
Anyone with Fijian (i-Taukei) or Fijian Indian (Girmit) ancestry and
who has experienced their first heart attack or had related surgery (such as stent or bypass) before reaching 55 years of age and
Is a NZ Permanent Resident or Citizen
You may also be able to take part if you have a close relative who has had a heart attack at a young age.

Who can participate
Koha
Participants will be reimbursed for travel costs ($50 petrol voucher) and offered a koha ($100 supermarket voucher) for their participation.
